Fat Dissolving – Aqualax Treatment

We offer fat dissolving using Aqualax. Aqualyx is made up of plant-based compounds that dissolve membranes of fat cells in the area treated. The effects are long lasting which means those stubborn areas of fat are gone!

It can be used on small pockets of fat that exercise can’t move in areas such as chin, chest, abdomen, thighs, knees and ankles. Please note this is not a weight loss treatment but is good for body contouring. If you look after yourself the results are good and permanent (your body can regenerate new fat cells very slowly). However, if you don’t maintain a healthy lifestyle your body will put on weight in other areas of your body wgere fat cells remain (areas not treated). Below is a full list of the treatment areas:

Is Aqualax safe to use

We do get asked of this treatment is safe, it is imperative for us as a clinic to only offer treatments that are safe and approved. Aqualyx is a safe and effective fat dissolving injection treatment that reduces fat cells in the treated area. This treatment was predominantly used by medics only but is now available for non-medics. It has been given a CE approval for us in the UK, which meets the health and safety standards required by the European Union. It’s been used since 2009 in over 2 million treatments over 49 countries. It has a strong safety record supported by sound medical science.

Treatment information – am I suitable?

For those who are close to their ideal body weight, have a healthy lifestyle and yet still have stubborn areas of fat you may be suitable. The most common areas to be treated are double chins. After that it’s mobs, saddle-bags, inner thighs, cankles and abdomen. There are other areas that we can use this treatment too. We recommend an initial consultation to check whether you are suitable and at this time our practitioner will talk about a treatment plan and costs if you are suitable.

You can not have this treatment if ….

  • You have diabetes
  • You have liver or kidney disease
  • You have active skin problems in the area to be treated
  • You are taking blood thinning medicine (e.g. Warfarin)
  • You are pregnant
  • You are breastfeeding
  • You’ve given birth within the last 2 months
  • You are under 18 years or over 60 years of age
  • You are diagnosed with Lipodystrophy or any pathological condition

Treatment information – downtime?

Following treatment in the face, there may be swelling and discomfort around the treated area that might be slightly uneven. This will last for around 3-5 days and subside dramatically. Once the initial swollen phase is over, there will possibly be small lumps and bumps which are bruises under then skin that will take a couple of weeks to resolve. These are not usually visible or only slightly visible.

The face requires only a small amount of solution so the side effects are minimal. We always advise 2-6 weeks for end results to be seen. If your treatment is in the area of the face you may wish to organise your treatment when you have no social events or when you have a bit of time away from work. Swelling can be reduced with a cool pack wrapped in a cloth for 20 minutes a day. Anti-inflammatory cannot be used for 48 hours after the treatment, as this will do the opposite to what the process is to dissolve the fat.

The area treated may feel tender and a bit firm for up to 8 weeks after the treatment.

Avoid:

  • Swimming pools, spas and saunas for 3 days after the treatment
  • Physical exercise for 10 days after treatment
  • Any other aesthetic treatments for 2 weeks

Treatment times

The treatment can take between 30-60 minutes per session and dependant on the area you will need between 2 – 8 treatments, 4 weeks apart. Some people may see significant results after 1-2 sessions. Treatment under the neck and chin for example, require 1-3 treatments of 2-3 injections, whilst fat pockets on the hips and thighs and stomach may require up to 8 treatments.

When will I see results?

Depending on the size of the area treated and the size of the fat pocket. It typically takes 1 – 3 treatments for small areas like the chin, jowls etc. Larger areas such as thighs typically take 2 – 8 treatments. These sessions are spaced at 4 – 6 weeks apart and results show 6 weeks after your initial treatment, which is when you will be asked back for your review with the practitioner.

Side effects?

People using AQUALYX will typically experience minimal side effects when compared to more invasive procedures, such as liposuction. Side effects include some redness, swelling and tenderness in the treated area. Some people may experience some light bruising, itching, but this and any other side effects will usually resolve within a few days. You may need to take over the counter painkillers to control any pain-related side effects. The manufacturers report that to date no major side effects.
